I spent the whole day researching Saharan terrain, weather patterns and traditional nomadic lifestyles. This is the most interesting thing I learned:
“There is, however, a tradition of blind guides in the Sahara, men who could check their position at the end of each day by the smell of the sand.”
wow.

by the smell of the sand
probably camel pee…
still impressive IMHO
That’s pretty cool…
i reckon!
Tough if your blind guide gets a head-cold en route, though…
When I read ‘The History of Dust’ I was intrigued to know that dust from the Sahara was in my house every day, on my car. Ditto, a speck of star dust was falling on my car every 20 minutes or so.
wow! that’s pretty awesome.
