LSS Honourable mentions

The crazy folks over at lastshortstory  have released their best Aussie short stories of the year lists. I call them crazy because they attempt to read every short story published in the genre over the course of the year — not just here but overseas as well (published in English, that is).

It was honourable mentions across the board for me: my Clockwork Phoenix story ‘Palisade’ scored with all four readers; girliejones  also listed ‘Sammarynda Deep’ from Paper Cities and ‘Shadows of Our Gods’ from Borderlands #10. benpayne  liked ‘Champagne and Ice’ from Aurealis #38/39 and cassiphone  dug ‘Piper ‘from ASIM #36.

So I’m thinking that ‘Palisade’ is probably my best story of the year and now I’m hanging to see if I got lucky and scored an Aurealis Award nomination or not. As I’ve mentioned before, ‘Palisade’ was a difficult story to sell — I probably wouldn’t have made the grade with it at all were it not for the editorial input of Mike Allen (time_shark ). He made me rework the back end of it until it had punch. Thanks mate!

Congratulations to ll the other LSS listed authors, particularly those from Dirk’s Canterbury 2100. You rock!
