… to a couple of friends of mine who have books coming out very soon:
Slights is Kaaron’s first novel although she’s been publishing award winning short fiction for somewhere around 20 years now. The cover is way scary — not something you want to be reading in the house all alone at night.
Richard Harland is the author of many books but World Shaker is the first to secure an American deal. He describes the story as ‘steampunk Victoriana’. The gorgeous cover art is by Oscar-nominated film-director Anthony Lucas.
Go Aussies!!!

Hurrah! May they sell squillions so Kaaron and Richard will write more like them!
Kaaron’s might actually be too scary to read!!! I’ve read bits of Richard’s in its development stages.
When I was a kid, I used to be so scared of my copy of The Amityville Horror that it’d file it spine-first in my bookcase. Here’s hoping hoping SLIGHTS has a unicorn or something on the spine so I won’t have to do that again. ๐
when I was a kid I made myself a doll that was so scary looking I had to make it a magic amulet to wear to stop it from attacking me!!!
Eek! Have you still got it?
Possibly. I think its shoved in a cupboard somewhere. And yes, the magic amulet is still around its neck. Obviously. Cos otherwise it would have GOT ME!!!
Maybe it’s biding its time, or stuck under something heavy. Ever hear any rustlings in your cupboard that couldn’t possibly the cats..?
YES!!!!
Oh, well, it’s probably nothing.
you are so evil, Williams!!!
Where’s your amulet now, Sparks? Hee hee hee.
Just wait till I get down there to Adelaide…
I await you in my fortress of chocolate!
Mmmmm… chocolate….
Don’t forget my moat of sav blanc!
This really is the place to be.
I’m trying to think of a witty retort but you’ve heard them all… and none of them were all that witty to start with.
Neither is my incessant nagging. I will desist. ๐
Really like the covers on both of them. I think both have a real chance of success.
I recived a reading copy of Richard’s book yesterday and intend to start it today.
I read a chunk of it back when he was workshopping it in our since defunct writing group. He gave us a copy a few days ago so I’ll read the whole thing at some point.
