wasted

Rob and I are now the proud owners of an electric blanket. I finally cracked and decided I wanted one of the damn things when I acknowledged that they are not, generally speaking, dangerous. Certainly no more dangerous than sleeping with two cats who despise each other mere inches away from my face. Wordcount for the day = zippo Beef casserole = ready in about an hour.

busy busy

Lately I’ve been run off my feet with various things. Both the day job and the writing require my full attention. Consequently I’ve been cutting back on the social stuff and it looks like the rest of the year might go a little along those lines. In brief: My boss continues to mercilessly whup my arse at ping pong. I beat him once last week but it doesn’t count because he was playing left handed (he’s ordinarily right handed and I didn’t even notice he’d switched hands!); Yes, I know the whole world has branded Clash of the Titans as garbage but Rob and I really enjoyed it. Possibly because we didn’t opt for the 3-D version. Or possibly because we don’t expect historical sword, sorcery, giant monster and heroic costume adventure type movies to contain much other than the items listed; From the annuls of ‘you know you’re a real writer…

Sunday

written: 2000 new words unwritten: about 700 crap words read: more improbable adventures of Sherlock Holmes arranged: lunch with a very dear friend I almost never get to spend time with cooking: roast beef listening to: Brazil classics II: samba! cleaning: nope, the place is a pigsty watching later tonight: Sunset Boulevard as Rob confessed to never having actually seen it before. Hope you all had a successful day too!

things i learned this weekend

1. My current writing project does not suck as much as I feared 2. Gluten and lactose-free friands are ridiculously easy to make. And disturbingly tasty 3. Ditto on gluten and lactose-free pizza 4. Smershy has been weeing in both of our studys. Bad bad kitteh. 5. JJ Abraham’s Star Trek movie was every bit as good the second time through as the first

sunny!

It’s one of those beautiful beachside summery midmornings. Yeah, I’m at work but there’s loads of sunlight streaming through the Venetian blinds. I’m researching GM food, a subject on which I have yet to acquire an opinion, eating walnuts which may or may not be as nature intended them, listening to JJJ and sorting a bit of last minute detail for Conflux. We’ve been watching our way through Ashes to Ashes this week. OK, so it’s nowhere near the masterpiece that is the original Life on Mars (no fucking way will I ever be bothering to watch the Yank version). But it’s fun. I like it. I suspect what I really like watching is Phillip Glennister playing Gene Hunt. They could broadcast hours and hours of Hunt driving dangerously, punching guys and spouting bad 80s slang with no plot whatsoever and I’d probably still be watching.

general life update

We spent last weekend in Orange visiting Rob’s brother Trevor’s family and attend the opening night of his painting exhibition Dusk Marks and Memory – Imagining Landscape. Orange appears to be an attractive, civilised part of the world, although I’m buggered if I can figure out why its called Orange — the district is known for its apple orchards.Upon discovering how close Orange is to Parkes, I am now super-keen to return in January to attend the Parkes Elvis Festival. (Wanna come too Justine?)Not much else to report, actually. Made a spur of the moment decision and bought a plane ticket to Perth for Swancon. Oh, and Ninjaz fans… watch this space for exciting Conflux-related news…
