a belated birthday present from
Spent the weekend freezing my toes off in Canberra — almost literally! Took a couple of hours to get circulation back in the little buggers after leaving Donna’s place this morning. Donna’s house is warm and toasty on the inside but her front yard is practically Antarctic! Anyway, we went down yesterday for a birthday lunch with Kaaron and her family, then off to a gorgeous boutique bookshop in Manuka called Paperchain for the launch of Nicole Murphy’s debut novel Secret Ones.

Kaaron Warren & Matthew Farrer
Then we went back to Nicole’s place to eat stuff and gossip

I saw something in Paperchain that afternoon that was so utterly awesome, my heart almost stopped beating. I couldn’t stop thinking about it all night so the next day we drove back to the store and I scored myself the best birthday present evah! OK, so my birthday’s not actually until September but I seriously couldn’t wait that long.
A Tintin sculpture made of resin & ceramic, 35cms high. And yes, it cost a truckload of money and no I don’t give a damn.
So this guy, Jamie Bell, is playing Tintin in the Spielberg movie. He looks so right for the part, I can’t believe he wasn’t the first choice!
"Shooting on the first movie, ‘The Secret of the Unicorn’, has been completed. Spielberg and crew just wrapped an under-the-radar 32-day run of performance capture sessions with the principal cast, which includes Jamie Bell as our plucky, bequiffed hero and Daniel Craig as his nemesis Red Rackham. Rounding out the cast are motion capture stalwart Andy Serkis as seafaring boozehound Captain Haddock, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as the bumbling Thompson twins and the ubiquitous Mackenzie Crook as an unnamed, but surely villainous sidekick type character. There’s no word yet on how much of the actors’ physical performances will remain in the finished film: Pegg and Frost, for example, are playing identical twins, which is going to require a fair amount of digital trickery."

With a cast this hot, how can it possibly fail?
