Thank you to the many folks who turned up to the double launch of Thoraiya’s Crossroads of Canopy and my Lotus Blue at Kinokuniya last Thursday night – and to Galaxy bookshop on Saturday afternoon. Three cheers for Kate Forsyth and Margo Lanagan for doing the honours!

The event I’m currently attending in Orlando is called ICFA – 38th International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts. It’s just about the most perfect conference for me: a solid stream of hardcore academic spec fic coupled with long hours of conversational bar time. I found myself quite overwhelmed on the first day, as if I had literally crossed the Facebook threshold and entered a fantasy realm peopled with mythical kings and queens. No dragons sighted yet but the lake is supposed to be full of alligators. Here’s me sitting by the pool at the Marriott Lakeside with the fabulous Cat Rambo. More photos here.

Cape Canaveral!

I’m in Orlando to attend this year’s International Conference for Fantastic in the Arts so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get out to the Kennedy Space Centre and check out all its rocketry and history.

San Antonio!

While in Austin across 10 days for SXSW, I took the opportunity to bus on down to San Antonio to visit legendary Australian science fiction author Damien Broderick and his wife Barbara. We had lunch in a Riverwalk cantina and visited the Alamo, which was packed with people sporting green in celebration of St Patrick’s day.
