Sitting on the upstairs balcony, call to prayer echoing across the roof tiles. Cooling draughts rifling the palm fronds. The scritch and hum of insects. No children, no dogs. Low rumbling of traffic beyond the compound walls. An aeroplane, loud, unseen. Quick birds dart as shadows fall. Yellow headlights swerve into homecoming driveways.
