wordcount

I haven’t been blogging much of late, probably because my life has contained little more than day job, writing, reading and binging on old Dr Who DVDs for the past few months. The last four days saw me extruding a whopping 14,000 words all up, pretty awesome considering that one of those days was spent up in Springwood visiting Rob’s mother. That puts me at the halfway or 50,000 word point on my current novel project. it’s coming together nicely, probably due to the vast amounts of time I’ve devoted to plotting, planning and executing my narrative drive.

I can do wordcount. Word extrusion is the easy part, its the fact of there being a point to the story and making that point an interesting experience for the reader that gives me grief. There’s a vast gulf of difference between writing and storytelling. I get it, I really do — can I produce it? That’s the million dollar question…

Same same but different

This is an interesting one for me because I very much feel I’m having some similar questions.

Illustration (the MA I’m almost finished at Camberwell) demands engaging narrative. Something that tells a story regardless of style or technical ability.

So all my life drawing and digital painting skills mean nothing if the image doesn’t get it’s story over the line.

Having not done fine art I feel very much like I’ve been trying to learn both the BA and MA all in one go!

After two years I know I can produce a good quality image but there is a huge gap between image production and illustration. Between technique and art.

Thanks for sharing Sparks!
