What Science Fiction Books Should Be in Every Fan’s Library?

Mind Meld asks the question and my answers and a bunch of other people’s can be found here. Most interesting are the titles that appear on several lists.

Awww, YISS, Riddley Walker! And Caves of Steel! (Daneel made me cry when I was a teenager.)

Is it any surprise that you were the only one to peg these two? Quality and class all the way, that’s you, Cat!

That book bored me witless, as did the movie.

I must say, I love your take on The Dispossessed. If I was writing a list, that book and The Left Hand of Darkness would be at the top. Connie Willis’ To Say Nothing of the Dog would have to be there too.

Thanks for sharing this. I had to put this on my facebook. Next, I have to work out which of these books that I own.

I have Forever War and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and some of the others.

Awesome. I would have said Dune and the Dispossessed, too. Caves of Steel, haha, I am scared to read it again because I loved Daneel, too, but what if my maturer self thinks it’s terrible, just like the old Dr Who episodes I (wish I hadn’t) revisited lately?

P.S. Why do all the smart people like Cloud Atlas and I thought it was chinese water torture? I’m SMRT TOO!

Not all the smart people like Cloud Atlas -- I've met several who think its a pile of old toss.

I adore old Dr Who and have been watching a bunch of them recently. Not sure what that says about my IQ...
