Interesting things I learnt last week include:

Tapioca flour and arrowroot are the same thing only arrowroot contains preservatives

Straight red cordial is a cure for Bali belly and other buggy water-related gastric upsets.

Wish I’d been aware of the latter when I threw up at the foot of Borobudur all those years ago.

Tapioca <> Arrowroot

No, I’ve seen both and they are quite different plants…

A friend grew this in his back yard

A school friend’s family grew this commercially

I’ve never seen the so called Queensland Arrowroot
(which wikipedia links here) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canna_Agriculture_Group

I'm guessing that what the person in the health food shop actually meant is that they are both interchangeable as far as gluten-free baking is concerned

I know nothing about baking, so I won’t argue with you there. I do know about feeling googly in the belly (I get seasick and like to eat ‘like a local’ when overseas) and so can tell you that Coca Cola is also good for nausea: in fact, you often get given that in certain hospitals, and it totally works.

I knew that flat coke was good for sick folks cos it's all sugar.

I’ve heard that about red cordial but I have a vague memory it was only certain brands. I’m not sure it had to be neat either.

Dr Karl reckons it has to be neat
