justified and ancient
So we drove up to Sydney last night to have dinner with a bunch of my Clarion buddies, seeing as Superb Grace was in town. Actually getting there was one total friggin nightmare. Central Sydney is a mess of one way streets, sans signage and no parking spaces. Last time I was in Kings Cross it was full of junkies and hookers. These days its wall-to-wall boutique bistros and chic twenty-somethings in suits. I felt like a tourist in a foreign country. A lost and clueless tourist, whatsmore.
Rob and I really need one of those Tom Tom or Navman devices. Our street directory is way out of date and all but impossible to fathom in the dark with a penlight torch and our crappy degenerating eyesight. But it really bothers me to find myself utterly in need of a device that didn’t even exist a couple of years ago.
We turned up at the restaurant an hour late and totally frazzled. The food was fab but the place was dark and noisy and we had to shout to communicate with our friends. I dimly recall that I used to be such a city gal. Now, driving 88 kms to get lost, sit in the dark and shout, then pay a wad of cash for the privellage seems way too hard.
Today is my birthday and I detect clear signs that I’m turning into Grandpa Simpson.

As was the style at the time…
Will you be wearing an onion on your belt as a sign of your newfound status as entering your dotage?

Many happy bippies! No hope in hell of making dinner, but after what you’ve said I think I’d have been hysterically frazzled too.

Happy birthday from me, too! (By the way, I’ve been that cranky since the day and hour I was born. It’s not age. It’s your latent reclusiveness finally emerging. Laura does not like loud rooms or crowded places. Ever.)

Unreliable GPS…
Hi,
I do have a very old and unreliable GPS system that we’ve given up on. It takes about 10 minutes to warm up. We’ve used it twice; once where it was good and once where it thought our car was in Liverpool (we were in Epping at the time). You may be welcome to take it with all attendent possibilities for wacky adventures as long as my wife doesn’t protest.

Re: Unreliable GPS...
My friend has a TomTom and I've driven with her using it many times now. I'm quite impressed so i reckon we'll buy one of those.

O M G. It sounds like it’s been too long since I visited Kings Cross too… Dont tell me they’ve polished up the Alamein fountain into shining stainless steel too!

I didn't get too close to it but it did look pretty shiny at 50 paces

Where have they put all the junkies and hookers?
ON an unrelated note, Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday!
(and if you weren’t so ancient, I’d recommend an iPhone – as long as there are two people in the car it works quite well.)
