for your edification…

… here is a bunch of interesting and sometimes contradictory data gleaned from today’s research efforts:

People who enjoy a glass of 100 per cent juice as part of their daily routine have fewer risk factors for several chronic diseases.

Insomnia may cause mental illness and be linked to obesity.

Being born prematurely has been linked for the first time to serious mental illnesses that do not emerge until adulthood.

Having more than one alcoholic drink a day is enough to dramatically increase your bowel cancer risk, Australian research shows.

Perfectionism is linked to depression, to anxiety disorders, to anorexia, to obsessive-compulsive disorder and to insomnia. Studies have also linked perfectionism to relationship problems and sexual dissatisfaction.

Changes in diet over the past 50 years appear to be an important factor behind a significant rise in mental ill health, say two new British reports.

The Mental Health Foundation claims studies had clearly linked attention deficit disorder, depression, Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia to junk food and the absence of essential fats, vitamins and minerals in industrialised diets.

A study by the Japanese Health, Labour and Welfare Ministry has found that people who are overweight at the age of 40 live longer on average than people with other physiques.

Researchers found that eating large amounts of fish and seafood or the low levels of dairy food traditionally associated with the diet did little or nothing to lengthen a subject’s lifespan. However, drinking a glass of wine or two a day with large amounts of fruit, vegetables and olive oil, while keeping red meat consumption to a minimum did contribute towards a longer life.

Presumably only in Japan. everywhere else we are told that Fat Is Bad.
Maybe I’ll live long enough to prove the study right.

having re-read the entry I can only concur with Mark Twain:
“Part of the secret of a success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside. “

With comprehension skills like that, you should do a research paper.

Insomnia may cause mental illness and be linked to obesity.

Insomnia could be undiagnosed sleep apnoea (which IS linked to obesity and depression.)

And sleep deprivation is strongly linked to mental illness, that’s what makes it a highly effective interrogation tool.
