“Subtle” is not a word I would think to associate with McLean’s writing.

Your post reminded my that even though Ice Station Zebra was one of my most watched movies growing up, I don’t have a copy in my DVD stack – something that must be corrected asap.

Ah, I remember seeing the movie in the cinema in… 1968 when I was 6! I got a lenticular ’3D’ postcard with parachutists dropping on an icefield that was broken by the conning tower of a nuclear sub. Awesome!
