Dad update
My sister Rachael arrived from the UK yesterday. Dad’s looking a lot better. The facial swelling has gone down so he actually looks like himself again. A battered, stitched up version of himself, but recognisible, which he wasn’t a few days ago.
We’ve now been told that the guy who bashed him also doused him in diesel fuel. This has resulted in chemical burns to 15% of his skin. The doctors are keeping him asleep because dressing the wounds is so painful. They wake him every day, test his responses then put him back under for comfort’s sake. His biggest risk now is infection so he’ll be moved to the burns unit. Coincidentally, an old friend of mine works in there as a nurse. I feel better knowing she’ll be taking care of him.
This pic is from Rachael’s wedding in 2005

Oh lord, I hope that bloke is found guilty or at least insane. Glad to hear he’s doing better. Take care of yourself and your mum. It’s so easy to wear yourself out. Do you or your mum need anything? Let me know. I can come over after work (any night except Thursday) and run errands if needed.

Jeez that made me flinch! Thank heavens your dad’s comfortable, and by the sound of it, in excellent hands. It must be crazy-making not to be able to talk to him, though. Thanks for keeping everybody posted. We’re thinking of you.

Thanks Kate. One thing I've learned from all of this is how beneficial it is when other people show they care. It means we aren't alone with it and that matters more than I've ever understood before.

Wow. That just gets more insane! Doused him in fuel! Poor man! I’m glad then that the coma is really helping him not have to be in pain.
Thinking of you a lot and sending you all the love I have.

Wow; what an horrific attack, just awful. But positives: having someone you know there, your family around you, and all the support you’re getting here.

Diesel fuel? Bloody hell!
Glad to hear he’s doing okay, under the circumstances. Hopefully there’ll be more good news to come.
I know you’ve got plenty of close mates around to help, but in the unlikely event there’s something I can help with, let me know.
