Oscillations

Last night Lourdes and I went to see our former Raqs Sharqi teacher Sarah Hamilton perform with legendary dancer/choreographer Suraya Hilal and Marianthe Loucataris at the Casula Powerhouse.

And all I can say is WOW. We had front row, centre seats. Oscillations is a modern/classical program set to the oud music of Joseph Tawadros. What amazed me most is how much the dance has changed over the past few years. More on the contemporary, less on the traditional side.

What also amazed me is howcome this show isn’t on somewhere swank such as the Sydney Opera House. Because that’s the level of skill and quality involved.

It looks like a lovely and innovative form, Cat. I hope it finds followers all over the country eventually so more people can see and practice it.

Hilal dance is HUGE in many countries including the UK and Germany. Just not so much here, although that could be said for so many things...
