Sean Williams for ASA Committee
by Garth Nix, reposted here with his permission and my support
The Australian Society of Authors www.asauthors.org is an important organisation that campaigns for the rights of authors in Australia and
does much good work. It’s election time at the moment, when members choose representatives for the management committee and I want to go on the record as endorsing Sean Williams. I’ll be voting for Sean, and I hope other ASA members will be too.
I don’t usually campaign for candidates for the ASA, but Sean is an exceptional candidate who has missed being elected a few times
previously, once by a single vote, and I think to some degree he is disadvantaged because he lives in South Australia where there are fewer
ASA members than in the more populous states.
Obviously Sean is a good friend of mine, but I have plenty of good friends who I wouldn’t recommend for this committee
I think Sean is
ideal because he has long been involved with the SA Writers Centre, with reading initiatives like The Big Book Club, and he has a wealth of
experience from the many books and stories he has had published in Australia, the USA and many other countries.
Having served on the ASA committee myself, and being familiar with what is required, I also think Sean’s mix of experience, publishing
connections and willingness to get things done make him someone who ought to be elected.
So if you are an ASA member, please consider Sean!
If you’re an Australian writer who is not a member of the ASA, check it out at www.asauthors.org
