It does freak me out a bit to have something planned for Sept 2010 though.

Look at it another way -- until recently, Worldcons were selected three years in advance, not two, so you would have had to make this sort of commitment last year instead of now.

Personally, since I have been attending every Worldcon since 1989, I've been having to plan multiple years in advance for a long time. I've already got Seattle or Reno penciled in for 2011, and probably Chicago for 2012. I could put in my time-off requests three years in advance if my management would let me; as it was, I boggled my director by requesting three weeks vacation to attend Nippon 2007 some fourteen months in advance. And I was on the phone trying to make my airline booking for that trip the first day you could actually buy them -- and even then, the routing I wanted was blocked for use of frequent-flyer miles.

I was in Melbourne for Aussiecon Three in 1999, but was badly preoccupied by leading the bid for the 2002 Worldcon in San Jose. It will be nice to be back there not running a Worldcon bid!
