are we there yet?

You know those dreams you have where you’re trying to escape and you’re running as fast as you can but you’re trapped in slow motion and your arms and legs feel weighted down like you’re running underwater, or perhaps preserved in liquid amber like some sort of luckless prehistoric beetle? This is what 2008 has felt like to me most of the way through. This year I wrote more, wrote better, worked harder, tried harder, organised my thoughts, my work spaces, my routines, researched more, drank less, put some serious effort into improving my listening skills, watched my diet, helped a bunch of other people with their projects, threw in the towel with the small press publishing thing, got back in touch with about a million old friends and performed a fuckload of exercise. But you know what? The novel still isn’t finished, I only managed to get 4 short stories published, the 6x novella isn’t finished either, my memory still isn’t big enough to contain all the stuff I need to know and somehow a couple of extra kilos I thought I’d gotten rid of have managed to sneak their way back onto my arse since my encounter with Llyn’s home made rocky road at the picnic last Sunday…

AND I’m reliably informed that we have to wait till freakin MAY till the new Star Trek movie gets released, and JUNE for the next piece in the Terminator saga.

Fuckers.

Bleh. I give up. I am so over 2008. Chances of me not hitting the bottle when I get home from work tonight = 0

Any rocky road left?

I keep hearing about it, but I want proof. Come next winter (when it won't melt into a giant puddle) I want a special delivery. Please.

I got the impression that your 2008 was the kind of year that I hope to have next year, the kind of year that my 2008 makes me want to have next year. My 2008 left me wondering how I could squander so much prime opportunity for creative output, self improvement, and just plain fail to get things done.

So, next year I try to get organised, produce more, watch my diet and exercise, and all sorts of similar stuff. And by the end of next year, I assume I also will be thoroughly over it and ready to hit the bottle.

Here here (or is that hear hear? I'm never sure).

Cat, you are the person I want to be so shut up and enjoy the successes you've had.

With some distance I think you’ll see that you’ve made massive progress and achieved wonderful things this year.

For a start, you’re not dead.

You have an AA nomination. You have sold work, you have reorganised your life so it better suits your needs. The decks are cleared, and in 2009 you’ll have lift off.

And how will drink help reduce the kilos? *g*

2008 has been a king poo-bah year of suckiness. I’m over it. I already have 2009 calenders up in the house.
