Over at lastshortstory , Mister Payne picked my offering in Clockwork Phoenix as one of 2 standouts (the other being by Kathy Sedia, but we already know what a good writer she is):
And Cat Sparks‘ Palisade is a gruesome and unpleasant story of planetary colonialism, mixing nineteenth century brutality and conquest with a science fiction background. It’s done believably, and it’s a nasty and effective piece.
Yup, nasty and effective — thats what I strive for.
In other news, I’m utterly buggered after spending most of the weekend working on fixing the boring bits up the front third of novel #1. Methinks its time to make a Burmese chicken curry.
Also, blimey its been cold today. I’ve had the heater on, but I thought it was supposed to be summer!

I really have to work harder at being gruesome, unpleasant, brutal, and nasty. Of course, the trick is to do that and still be believable and effective, and jolly entertaining as well! I bet I could do that. Maybe.
