quantum of solace
Whoever’s original decision it was to cast Daniel Craig as Bond for the post millennium, it really was a stroke of genius. The new movie is almost two hours of fighting and exploding and chasing and shooting, and yet somehow it managed to come across as a love story. Not Bond’s love for dead Vesper as the story might suggest, but his love for all women worth fighting for. Weird? You bet. Misogynist? Not actually. Not this time.

It’s strange – I’m totally not used to actual character work in a James Bond movie.
It’s also brilliant – this is a Bond, unlike Die Another Day, that feels appropriate for the 21st century.

Saw QoS with Jamie and Sarah this afternoon. It works well, except for the car chase at the start which was too tightly edited and shot with too few long shots. But I like the closure of the Vesper plotline and the scene in the Opera House is one of the classic bits of a Bond film. Overall, great stuff.

The most important question is: does he have his shirt off at any point?
We are going soon.
