Oldboy
Dear Mr Spielberg,
Please do not produce an American version of this film starring Wil Smith. Nope, no way, nuh uh is this a Wil Smith kinda vehicle. If you absolutely and positively gotta do it, why not use Gary Oldman instead? Not only does he look quite similar to Choi Min-sik, I reckon he could pull off the live octopus eating scene quite convincingly. Not to mention all the … other stuff. No, I’m not linking to the Wiki page cos it’ll give the end away and you really all oughta go see this one for yourselves.

Spielberg’s tendency toward sentimentality makes the whole remake idea a horrible one. Oldboy worked because it was hard-core and almost operatic at the climax. This film needs a remake like I need another ear.

I am a fairly notorious Spielberg apologist, and even I don't think he's a remotely good match for Oldboy. If you must remake Oldboy, do it with Fincher or someone of that nature.

Huh. No way Spielberg would cast Will Smith. If he couldn’t get Harrison Ford to agree, he’d take Shia LaBoeuf, of course.

Mmm. I can see it now. Shia LaBoeuf as Young Oldboy, and Harrison Ford as the older version. Wow! I’m gettin’ chills just thinking about it…

I saw an Indian remake of Old Boy that was almost shot-for-shot identical (as far as I could remember). I wonder why they bothered.
And yes, a Spielberg/Will Smith version (much as I like Smith) sounds wrong. Makes me think of the awful remake of The Vanishing.

I was completely unaware of this news… Spieldberg and Smith… could they have chosen a worse combo to pull off this movie? This is a seriously dark movie. I can’t even imagine Spieldberg wanting to do it.
