longing
At some point on the retreat weekend, I fired up Scrivener to show the Mac users in the group its awesomeness as a writing tool. I opened the file of Arctica, my 2nd novel in progress. Its been so long since I’ve had a chance to work on it — not through slackness, but through ridiculous overcommitment to multiple other projects. Seriously, it was like lifting the lid on a casket of pirate booty, or a box of expensive hand crafted Belgian chocolates. I stared at my book in all its tiny precious pieces with utter longing. I wanted to get back in there, but I’m still flat out with other stuff including other writing deadlines, so i don’t know how long its going to be till I can re-engage. I felt this awful longing… much like the awful longing I’m experiencing due to not having time to check out Brendan Fraser’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth movie on a big cinema screen… and don’t bother telling me the movie is crap cos I just don’t care. Its Brendan Fraser at the centre of the Earth and I wanna go.

Don’t be stressed! You’ve got a lovely weekend in Canberra coming up! And the book is there, waiting for you. As for Brendan Fraser, well, yes, he is lovely. But I walked out of Mummy 3 for its sheer horrifying awfulness and I can’t bring myself to do this Journey remake. Maybe on dvd. But if you want to go, then to hell with it, go. You’ll feel better even if it is crap.

seriously, I don't have time. I have to prep for various panels, clean my filthy squalid house before my father comes to cat sit, and knock up the AV presentation I promised for Conflux too. And work, of course. There are only 3 evenings left... I swear I have done nothing but work this year and I never seem to get on top of it all.

I wanted to see Journey to the Center of the Earth too, but I figured the only reason to see it was in big screen 3D. I have a feeling just renting the regular ol’ 2D DVD is gonna suck.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is one of my favourite stories. I have to see every version ever made.

I really enjoyed watching it, so I certainly won’t tell you it’s crap. The first fifteen minutes is a bit dodgy, but after that, way cool! And Brendan Fraser is back to being hot again.

I think I missed his non-hot period.

The Brendan Fraser Journey is crap in many ways – much of it makes no sense – but it’s not as bad as some of the reviews say. It’s big, dumb fun. Definitely see it in 3D if you can.
