last episode

We watched the very last episode of Department S the other night. Despite that show’s many and multifacetted flaws, I’m really going to miss it. Fortunately its my birthday soon and Rob has bought me a boxed set of the spinoff series Jason King. He had to spoil the surprise and tell me about it or else I’d demand we drive to JB Hi Fi and purchase JK on the spot. But now I have to wait a whole nine days. He wont even let me examine the packaging.

Curiously, the final episode of Department S contained Ronald Lacey, the dude who played the horrid little Nazi torturer in Raiders of the Lost Ark. I recognised another face in the cast as belonging to the guy who was having a drinking contest with Marion Ravenswood in the Nepalese bar in Raiders. Not a speaking part and I don’t know his name… but it made me wonder if maybe the two actors had become friends on the set of Department S and perhaps Lacey had gotten his buddy a job on Raiders. Or something. Little stories within stories intrigue me.
