stranger than dreams… and fiction

Over the last few months old friends of mine have been popping up out of the woodwork. Folks I haven’t seen, or in some cases even thought about for years. Facebook, despite all its other annoying features, is a great facilitator for such electronic reunions. So far no one I don’t actually like has popped back into my life. Today I received an email from Sandy, an old high school friend I haven’t seen in something like 15 years. After school she headed off to South Africa to work as a Christian missionary. I saw her a couple of times after that and once on the news, interviewed following a violent incident in the Soweto slums. Anyway, today’s email was interesting. She gave a brief summary of what she’d been doing & told me she’d written a book about her time in South Africa. The launch is in a couple of weeks. Last night she dreamt that myself and a couple of other old school friends turned up to the launch. So she decided to google me.
And as a result I will indeed be attending her book launch. Here’s the book. That’s her on the cover.
