the novel
Beavering away on the novel today and it all just seems like an enormous pile of doo doo. Yes, I know the doo doo stage is a certified part of the novel writing process, only its shitting me big time. Think I’ll go watch some bad TV on the treadmill. Relic Hunter is my current favourite tready companion. Its a very silly show, but does contain a bit of kickboxing action

It’s a hard, awful thing, writing a novel. You have this perfect idea in your head, this beautiful thing, this objet d’art, and somehow it becomes all messy and awkward somewhere between the brain and the screen. And all you can think is, “you’re ruining it, stop it!” Are you in the middle third or so? That’s usually the doo doo stage.
Just keep telling yourself, it’s only a draft, it’s only a draft, it’s only a draft…

Heh heh heh. Welcome to my world … *g*
Seriously, it’s almost never as bad as you think. Just keep going. There’s nothing written that can’t be rewritten. And if nobody but you ever reads it, then it never got wrote.

yeah, but if nobody but you ever reads it, you don't get to be a novelist!

You have my permission to write the worst doo-doo in the world. It can always be fixed later and made into gold, or at least, more attractive doo-doo.

Oh rubbish. Writing novels is dead easy, Ms Sparks, and you’re just being lazy. Pull your finger out and finish the pile of doo doo so you can start polishing it!
Honestly, Sparks!
