alien abduction
Rob and I were kidnapped by aliens this morning. No really! Here’s what happened. When we woke up it was really dark. Dark and cold. It had been raining all night and it took me a full 10 minutes to drag myself out of bed. I jumped onto the treadmill for 45 minutes while listening to an audiobook: Asimov’s Robots of Dawn, then had a shower. Afterwards, as I sat at my computer eating Sultana Bran, I realised my Mac was showing 6.58 as the correct time. Bugger, thought I, my clock is wrong, so I checked my watch, but that seemed to think it was 6.58 as well, as opposed to the 7:58 it was supposed to be. We were a whole hour behind! Somehow we had managed to unwittingly get up a whole hour earlier — no wonder I had so much trouble waking up.
So of course, the first thing that springs to mind as an explanation is alien abduction. But don’t the alien visitations usually result in missing time rather than added time?

That’s spooky indeed. But really, the only real test of alien abduction is this: missing time and an unexplainably sore arse. Probes and all that, y’know. So if your arse feels OK, then you’re OK.
