Dunno what it is about boxing movies but they always end up sucking me in, even though boxing, in its many varied forms, has got to be the stupidest concept for a sport ever. The Set Up, The Harder They Fall — even boxing documentaries manage to hook my interest (but not the Rocky movies for some strange reason). Last night we watched a Thai boxing pic, Ong-Bak. No wire-fu in this one, it was all 100% buff guys belting the crap outta each other. AWESOME!

Ong Bak definitely kicks arse, especially when you realise there is no wire work involved.
I do have a fondness for The Set Up too. Real time movie, based on a prose poem, classic film noir. Then you have Requiem For A Heavyweight, too… boxing films did go down hill when Stallone got involved.

I recommend ‘Beautiful Boxer’ at least, that’s what I think its called. It’s about a man who wants to be a woman, boxing to get the money to afford it. Absolutely stand out film.
