And the good news is that Smersh came home from his overnight stay in kitty hospital. He has only 4 teeth left, poor thing, but blood tests reveal he does not have kidney problems or diabetes. Just a bit of arthritis. He has bits shaven off all over the place and he went straight to it, gumming down the other cats’ food while they kept a respectful distance. Then he spent the rest of the evening running up and down the house.(I’m thinking he was still a bit medicated). Smershy does not usually move very fast. Here’s my favourite snap of him taken when he was fatter and healthier.
Thanks for your good wishes, everyone. Smersh is one of those special old boys. Cranky, yet lovable.

One of my dogs is like that. 2 canines left, and that’s all.

seriously, I'd been looking round the garden for a nice plot for him, thats how sure I was that he was on his last legs.

Smersh is the only cat I know who hi fives folks. Also, he can open cupboards by butting them with his head!

Glad to hear it, Cat. Smersh sounds like our cat, Aimee, who is 19 years old and just damn well refuses to die. I’m sitting on the couch with her at 7am on a Saturday morning as I type this, because if I didn’t she’d be meowing louder that you could possibly imagine for company. She refuses to join us on the bed where it’s warm, we have to come to her on the couch where it’s frickin’ freezing. *shakes head*

Ta! yeah, Smershy's a bit like that. Put him on the warm bed and he jumps off to go find a cold bit of tile to sit on.
